  • General principles of sentencing of adults and youths under appropriate legislation; theories and objectives of sentencing
  • The role of lay people: role of magistrates, jury trial: including jury selection, the jury and questions of fact, majority verdicts, jury secrecy and the use of juries in the Coroners’ Courts, criticisms and alternatives to the jury system
  • Study of the disctinction between enforceable legal rules and principles and other rules and norms of behaviour
  • Study of criminal law
