Ad colligenda bona

A latin phrase meaning ' to collect the goods'

It is sometimes necessary to apply for a temporary grant or a grant ad colligenda bona in the administration of a deceased person's estate. This could be the case if there is a dispute over the valididty of the will or in the case of looking after livestock or perishable goods until the executor is in a position to carry out his duties.

It allows the person with a grant ad colligenda to protect the assets of the estate while the dispute surrounding the will is resolved. He is unable to distribute any of the assets, his role is to preserve the assets until a general grant is made.
